Boxer vs. Kickboxer

The age old debate about who would or could win in a boxing vs. kickboxing match is almost humorously depicted in this clip. It goes to show you that a boxer, conformed to their rules, are limited in effectiveness.

The less rules that are involved in a match, the more important it is for a martial artist to train in all the other variables. This match could be used as a metaphor for not just boxing vs. kickboxing, but for the overall training and development of a martial artist.

Atascadero local, Trevor Porter, traveled to Hollister California this past weekend to participate in his first Mixed Martial Arts competition.  Trevor has been training at The Pit North for about 2 years now, and was ready to put his skills to the test. Trevor fought local Hollister favorite Jacob Lomato. Trevor came out fast the first round, with a barrage of combination and some spinning back kicks to ahh the crowd. The second round saw more grappling as Trevor Porter pushed his opponent against the cage and looked for a takedown opportunity. Trevor finally got a single leg takedown, but his opponent immediately tried to choke him with a guillotine choke. Trevor escaped and the round ended with Trevor on top throwing punches. The third round both guys came out strong and fast!  Trevor looked like a ninja as he threw in some clever spinning techniques. Despite Jacob being the crowd favorite, Trevor of Pit North won a unanimous and well earned decision. Congratulations to Trevor “The Ninja” Porter for a first fight win!
